ZSI – Zentrum für Soziale Innovation/Centre for Social Innovation

The Centre for Social Innovation (ZSI) is an autonomous, politically independent scientific institution, to advance social innovation and foster an open and solidly united society. The ZSI applies socio-scientific research, education, advisory and networking services to reduce the gap between social needs and potentials of the knowledge based society. By connecting its scientific basis with practical applications the ZSI provides an interface across scientific disciplines and sectors.

The ZSI has three units. The unit “Work and Equal Opportunities” (A&C), delivers services for labour market and social politics by focussing on the configuration of labour markets, innovative employment policies, all aspects of migration, ethnic economies, gender equality, ageing society, education and qualification and further issues of social integration versus exclusion. A special cross-sectional domain of A&C is local and regional governance by partnerships. Many of the 10 to 15 projects implemented each year are based on international co-operation and networks with partners from the EU and abroad.

By applying multi-disciplinary approaches in research, networking and policy advice the experts of A&C develop and convert innovative ideas into forward-looking products, such as projects, studies and services. Clients include international organisations such as the EC, OECD, ILO as well as national public authorities (Federal Ministry of Labour, Social Affairs and Consumer Protection, Federal Ministry of Science and Research, etc.) and a variety of social policy and labour market organisations.
